Janaury 2018 Update

Sensory Silliness

This month we have been testing out senses to the max! We have explored so many textures from Jelly to smelly slime. The children have loved using their gross motor skills to stir the jelly with spoons and folks. We have especially chosen spoons so that they children become familiar with holding spoons to encourage them being used at meal times. The children have also been expressing themselves

Ladybirds and Butterflies

Our ladybirds and butterflies have been very busy having fun this month.  Our book of the month has been “Goldilocks and the 3 bears”. The children have absolutely loved this book! They have been joining in with the story, repeating missing phases the children have loved signing our 3 bear song and joining in with the actions. As a follow on activity we all made our own porridge for snack time and added in our own choice of toppings.

The children have been using their imagination with play dough. It’s amazing what you can make,  we have had ham and cheese sandwiches, birthday cake, castles and even power liners to power the castle. We extended the children’s learning by letting them use the play dough in the home corner so they can make and mould their own foods, having their own ideas.

Why don’t you use our simple play dough recipe at home? All you need is

Play dough on the hob

½ cup of salt

1 cup of plain flour

2 tablespoons of cream of tartar

1 cup of water

1 tablespoon of oil

3 drops of liquid food colouring

Peppermint essence

How to make

Mix all of the ingredients together in a sauce pan.

Stir over heat until dough is pliable

Allow to cool and store in a plastic bag or container

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

Ho Ho Ho post our letters and to the North Pole they go!

We had lots of messy fun this month making our post box for our friends to post their Christmas cards.  We also enjoyed making lots of festive decorations for our mummy’s and daddy’s, exploring different textures and using lots of different techniques when doing so.

With Christmas fast approaching and the children getting into the festive spirit, Bumblebees starting decorating their room using all of the sensory equipment available. They loved using the sensory light buttons to turn the lights on and off. We used this experience to explore our ICT skills and also to learn about the different colours at the same time. Ladybirds and Butterflies started the month by decorating the christmas tree.

By using glitter, the children have shown a great interest in mark making, forming letters and drawing pictures which have all been on display around the room to help encourage their interest and to promote a sense of pride in their work. All of the children practiced our very special Christmas story ‘ A Monkey Puzzle Christmas’ which was filled with some of our favourite Christmas songs. We enjoyed making a variety of exciting seasonal activities and have been busy making lots of arts and crafts for our mummy and daddy’s.

Mince pies

With the cooking classes taking place what other way to enjoy Christmas cooking then to make your very own mince pies. The children sat, listened and watched Christine very carefully before attempting to make their own mince pies. Once they were cooked the children ate them as a treat for their pudding after lunch.

Christmas party

What other way to celebrate an ending to a great year then to have a Christmas party. With a special guest appearance from the main man himself the children had a wonderful time. Thank you to all of the parents who took time out at this busy time of year to come and have some fun at the nursery with the children and staff.

Remember Remember the 5th November

“Remember, remember the 5th of November” This month in Bumblebees we put our mark making skills to the test and made some fantastic firework painting using toilet rolls. This really helps with our expressive arts and design skills as we enjoy the effects of making movement that leaves marks.

In ladybirds and Butterflies, we created our firework pictures in the garden and our very own special poppies for Remembrance Day to remember the soldiers past and present who have served our country.

As winter is approaching and the weather is turning the children have taken it upon themselves to make sure their mode of transport is not effected.

Bumblebees, Ladybirds and Butterflies have also been practicing their markmaking skills this month

Happy Halloween

October has been a busy month for us and the children as we have introduced some changes to the nursery and their routines.

With the introduction of a new nursery uniform to the children in the Butterflies and ladybirds room, we felt that is was a great way of uniting the nursery together. we also saw it as a way of making life easier for all you parents in the morning as well. Ha Ha!  The children have really taken to the uniform making them look very smart indeed. We also felt that having a uniform will get the children school ready for when they transition to primary school. With the school readiness in mind we have also introduced a self registration to the children as a way of them recognising their own name and getting familiar with the letters in their name. The children register every morning and afternoon.

As this is a spooky month of ghost and ghouls the children have been exploring their spooky senses! They have enjoyed making cakes using their motor skills to help mix up all their ingredients and of course they really enjoyed tasting them after. The Bumblebees have also had lots of touchy; feely experiences such as pasta worms and shaving foam with food colouring to help with their  physical development, exploring objects in a variety of ways.

The older children have also been practising their fine motor skills by hammering in matchsticks into the pumpkins and using pinchers grips to pick them up and hold them.

  Happy Halloween everyone.

September started with a big party for us as we celebrated our 1st birthday.

We also welcomed lots of new children to the nursery in September and they have all settled in rather well.

August Update

With the sun shining down on the children and the nursery, we took this opportunity to teach the children about the different insects that can visit the garden when it is hot. We were lucky to come across this little fellow and the children were amazed at how big it looked.

With the good weather upon us, what better opportunity then to get the children using their fine motor skills and decorating the large tree branch with the favourite colour and then tying lots and lots of coloured ribbon to it. We then managed to attach it to the wall as part of our 3d display.

Our babies haven’t been missing out on the fun, they have been using their time to sharpen their sensory skills with lots of different activities.

June Update

With summer in full flow and with the glorious weather we are having, where else would the children spend their day then in the garden using all of the wonderful resources that are available to them.

The children have been playing in the mud and making mud pies and also just stopping for a chit-chat whilst using the outside equipment. But it hasn’t been all about the play the children have also been using our alphabet wall to practice their writing and shapes.

With the weather being so hot, the only way to cool down in the garden is to with water play that the children loved.

Whilst the older children have been busy in the garden the younger bumblebees have also been busy this month. They have been enjoying the lovely weather also and designing their own sunglasses, everyone always needs new sunglasses for the summer!

We have also been celebrating the Queen’s birthday by making our own crowns.

The children used their mixing and motor skills to make cakes to celebrate Eid.

May Update

This month started off with the children taking part in Peppa Pigs muddy puddle walk to raise money and awareness for Save the Children charity. All the children were invited to come to nursery in their wellington boots and splash in muddy puddles and also create an amazing piece of art as well, with their feet and boots. As you can see the children had a great time.

The Preschool children have been learning what letters are in their name and matching them with the peddles.

The toddlers have also been looking at the shape of letters and using our new alphabet wall in the garden. They have been using their fine motor skills and their fingers to follow the shape of the letters.

With the wonderful weather that we have been having recently, the children have had the opportunity to look at the insects that visit us in the garden. They particularly liked the dragonfly they caught with the bug magnifiers.

As it was Easter this month we set the children a competition to see who could be the most creative in their Easter bonnet making. All of the children put in a lot of effort into making their bonnets, so we decided that all of them are the competition winners. Look out for your prizes they are on there way.

With the change in the weather, we have decided to develop our garden a little bit more. With the help of the children we have created a construction area. Within physical development we have incorporated some tyres and made an obstacle course for the children to run.  Some children have also extended their play by using these tyres as tunnels and large building blocks.
